Jose Mourinho Pondering Luke Shaw Start Against CSKA Moscow

The Frenchman was sent-off towards the end of Saturday's 3-1 victory over Arsenal for a stamping challenge on Hector Bellerin.

Manchester United suffered their first defeat of the Champions League against Basel a fortnight ago. "But he's very happy to play tomorrow and to try to keep his momentum because since he was back from injury, he's been phenomenal".

"It's the match that matters".

"Of course he's maybe a bit exhausted and has only had a few days to recover, but he's very happy and he'll try to keep his momentum, because since he's been back he's been phenomenal".

The Portuguese did hint at springing a surprise with regards to including one of his injury worries in the squad, though he would not say who.

"He is like the team", said Mourinho, ahead of United's Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.

"He is okay but he needs, now and again, specific work on the muscle that supports that knee that went through such a hard surgery", the boss told us.

"When the time for that hard work comes the fatigue comes". He plays tomorrow. Of course, he's a bit exhausted because it was a huge match last weekend and just two days to recover for CSKA.

"He was on this cycle of work, divided between the gym and the pitch". He'll be back to normal after CSKA'. "More importantly, the others deserve an opportunity to play".

And with that in mind, here is a potential XI for the meeting with the Russian side including Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw.

However, on the subject of whether Shaw will start the match, Mourinho said at a press conference: "I'd have to think".

'I'm going to make a few but not too many changes, ' Mourinho added.

Last season's runners-up Juventus would have expected to have qualified before the final matchday when they were drawn in Group D alongside Barcelona, Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos, but they head to Athens on Tuesday still needing a win to definitely progress.

"When we speak about Luke Shaw, he's working to have an opportunity and sooner or later that opportunity will arrive because he deserves that opportunity", said Mourinho.

"He is selected for tomorrow for start or be on the bench, I can not answer".
