The surprisingly excellent Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle may be getting more paid DLC early next year, but rather than being contented with that developer Ubisoft has today announced its intention to bring local versus multiplayer to the game in a free bonus update tomorrow. You can choose which characters you want to use in each match, and you can use any of their abilities to fell your opponents.
Players will also be able to select either all-Rabbid or all-Mushroom Kingdom-based teams, unlike in the main game where players had to have Mario and at least one Rabbid on their team at all times.
The new mode will allow players just three moves per turn, making strategy even more important than it already is. Will you move all your characters into strategic positions, or will you spend all your actions to, say, move Luigi into a sniping spot, activate his motion-attacking Steely Gaze, and then open fire on a juicy target?
Overall, Ubisoft says these Versus mode matches are created to pass quickly, with users having the additional option to set limits of 7 or 10 turns in addition to time limits. You can stick with the all-around starter loadouts, or specialize using one of 16 unlockable variants, each with differently balanced stats and weapons.
While I wish this update also came with online play, it's cool to see games like Mario + Rabbids getting support in the form of free little updates like this.
