No place for Test captain Dinesh Chandimal in Lankan ODI side

Sri Lanka have suffered three 5-0 whitewashes this year against South Africa, India and Pakistan.

The series against India is due to begin on December 10, with further matches on December 13 and 17.

The islanders are now involved in a three-Test rubber against India. However, the contest is marred by air pollution issues as the visitors wore masks while playing.

Meanwhile, the team has been ratified by Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera after an initial confusion that led to the stopping of nine players departing for India.

Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal did not get a place in the touring party led by Thisara Perera, who takes over the reins from Upul Tharanga.

The players, hence, will arrive in India only after the team selection has been approved by the sports ministry.

Sri Lanka ODI squad: Thisara Perera (capt), Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews, Asela Gunaratne, Chathuranga de Silva, Sachith Pathirana, Akila Dananjaya, Jeffrey Vandersay, Dushmantha Chameera, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep. The rest of the squad members are already in India as part of the Test line-up.

The players had arrived at the airport for the 12:30 a.m. flight to Delhi.

"Most players reached the airport around 9pm on Monday".

Sri Lankan selectors on Tuesday left out the Test captain from the ODI squad, as all-rounder Asela Gunaratne and opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka return to the side.

The country's sports law states that all Sri Lankan national squads are subject to the sports minister's approval.
