Porn star August Ames dead at 23; friends suspect she committed suicide

The cause of her death was not confirmed at post time, but Ames was 23.

Camarillo police said that Ames was pronounced dead at the scene, noting there had been no indication of foul play.

"I would get in contact with some people and then I would feel badly because they'd be like "what's your profession and I'd be like 'oh I'm in the adult industry, '" she said in reference to her search for a therapist, "Then I'd feel like they're like 'oh that's the whole reason that you are the way you are" and then I'd get turned off", she said. "Please leave this as a private family matter in this hard time".

The adult actress, originally from Nova Scotia in Canada, was raised in a military family.

August Ames, 23, was a rising star in the adult industry, appearing in more than 270 X-rated films and bagging award nominations for her performances.

She also had a large social media following, though friends tell The Blast her prominent online presence may have contributed to her death.

Ames was subject to a barrage of abuse on Twitter over the weekend after saying she would not work with "crossover" gay porn actors.

"I'm not mad, not going jump on the blame train, I'm just so incredibly sad. Someone who I liked and would have even called a friend", wrote Albrite.

A day later, on December 4, she expressed frustration with the criticism.

She defended herself again after a user responded to the tweet urging her to apologize. Fuck you guys attacking me when none of my intentions were malicious. I f-- love the gay community! #LAdirect I do my homework for my body'. "No hate", she wrote in another tweet.

Following Ames' death, some of her friends took their thoughts to social media to accuse the online bullies of encouraging her to commit suicide.

"A lovely life is GONE because people like to use their "fan base" to bully others because THEIR opinion doesn't agree with YOURS", Brett Rossi, ex-girlfriend to actor Charlie Sheen wrote on Twitter.
