A Southern California mother turned her son to Riverside police station at around 3 a.m. Saturday, after her 18-year-old son named Joseph Hayden Boston made a confession in front of her that he has molested "upwards of 50 children since he was 10 years old", according to the police. He'd been molesting children since he was 10, police said. Boston's mother told authorities she caught her son molesting two boys, ages 8 and 4.
According to the KABC-TV, Riverside Officer Ryan Railsback said, "This is going to affect not only the victims for a long time, but also our detectives and officers involved in this - to hear someone just be very open about what they've done, and they're only 18 themselves".
"The suspect had recently been staying at the Simply Home Inn & Suites", Riverside police said in a statement.
The open confession rattled investigators, who spent the weekend retracing Boston's tracks over almost half his life, looking for a trail of young victims, police said.
He'd been staying in the motel since November and was documented as living in Lakewood and Buena Park. Boston is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
But discovery of this alleged abuse only came to light after Boston had told his mother about it, police said.
Police urged anyone who may have information about the suspect to contact Detective Paul Miranda at 951-353-7945. His bail was set at $1 million after he was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
There's still uncertainty regarding whether Boston has an attorney as the listed phone number for him couldn't be located by the Associated Press on Sunday.
Meanwhile, County of Riverside Child Protective Services took custody of the two boys who Boston told police he molested.
