Tehseen Poonawalla fumes at brother Shehzad for questioning Congress president election process

If news reports are to be believed, Rahul Gandhi will soon be crowned as the President of the Indian National Congress but before this could be a reality, a rebellion can be seen on the horizon. Poonawalla is the younger brother of Tehseen Poonawalla who is the brother-in-law of land baron Robert Vadra, the husband of Rahul Gandhi's sister Priyanka Vadra and the son-in-law of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi. "I will be happy to contest in a genuine election, not in a rigged election", the party leader added. Of course, every word in the strongly-worded missive - his second in the last fortnight - Poonawalla dashed off to the Congress vice president is irrefutable.

Poonawalla further said: "I will contest if Rahul Gandhiji agrees to first have genuinely-elected delegates and not handpicked delegates".

"Will he be ready for a televised debate where we both as contestants can have a debate on what is our vision for the Congress party?" Will you allow yourself to be judged on merit rather than your surname?

"I have got Shehzad Poonawalla up as my child". We need to strengthen the Congress & allies to win.

"It is totally unacceptable to me and my family that Shehzad has dragged Mrs. Gandhi into this, he should have presented whatever issues he had in the party forum.I really don't know why Shehzad did this, it's very surprising, he did not discuss this at all with the family".

Poonawalla also said that he did this without the knowledge of Tehseen, a decision which had weighed long on his conscience and which he could defer no more.

Soon after Poonawalla's allegations, the Maharashtra unit of Congress and his family members virtually "disowned" him on Thursday. "Moreover, the newly-elected Pradesh Congress Committee representatives (delegates) have unanimously adopted a resolution asking Rahul Gandhi to contest the Congress President's election", Chavan pointed out. "Please refrain from tweeting/contacting me for the same", Monicka declared in her tweet.
