Officials say the encounter started after troops chased terrorists who attacked a military convoy that was going from Srinagar to Jammu.

After the attack on army convoy, the army, CRPF and policemen men laid siege around the area and launched combing and search operation to track down the militants responsible for the attack. One soldier on Road Opening Party (ROP) duty injured.

They said security forces blasted the house in which militants had later hiding after attacking the army convoy on the highway, disrupted traffic for several hours. The security forces fired tear-smoke shells and pellets to disperse them.

The gunfight erupted at village Nussu Badergund, Qazigund of Anantnag district, about 75 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. According to reports, three terrorists took cover in a nearby building and soldiers have undertaken an operation to flush them out. The sources in police told Mirror that the three terrorists were all involved in the Amarnath yatra attack in Anantnag in which eight people were killed.
