The game will kick off at noon on New Year's Day at Raymond James Stadium.

That was until the opening line for the Outback Bowl against MI.

MI is heading back to Florida.

On Sunday, the University of MI football program found out their bowl fate and they will be playing in the Outback Bowl against SC, with the game scheduled for January 1 in Tampa, Florida. That wiped out a potential Big Ten bowl bid to the Orlando, Fla. -hosted Citrus Bowl, where Michigan State was projected to play.

"We are honored to represent our University and the Big Ten Conference in the tradition-laden Outback Bowl in Tampa", said Jim Harbaugh, U-M's J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach. "These are two exciting teams and a quality match-up that fans are really going to enjoy watching on New Year's Day".

Michigan State will head to Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego on December 28 to face off against Washington State, which finished with a 9-3 record in the PAC-12. MI is also down a pair of quarterbacks who started this season. Michigan's night game at Penn State on ABC on October 21 had the best overnight rating across all networks.

SC opened as between an 8 1/2- and 9 1/2-point favorite against the Wolverines.

MI began the year ranked No. 11 in the Preseason AP Top 25, but ends the year unranked at 8-4 (5-4 Big 10). MI and SC shared one common opponent, Florida.

This is the second straight bowl game for SC, in its second season under coach Will Muschamp. In 2015 prior to Muschamp's arrival, SC was 3-9 in 2015.
