The American Idol reboot is nearly here, and while viewers will likely be pretty familiar with the format, executive producer Trish Kinane shared at ABC's Television Critics Association press tour on Monday that the show will be doing away with its custom of showcasing contestants' less-than-stellar auditions.
"American Idol and I have always been circling each other and it never has been the right timing". "That's why America loves it - because at the core people do love talent over just aesthetics all the time, and it is based off merit", Kelly said. "I take it very seriously, sometimes to my detriment".
"I'm blunt, but I can't be mean because I'm a woman", she quipped.
Kelly Clarkson says she is "super stoked" to be joining Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Alicia Keys as a coach for the upcoming Season 14 of The Voice (premiering Monday, Feb. 26, on NBC). There are going to be huge expectations for this show to succeed and we wonder if those expectations are going to expand out now with the news that Dancing with the Stars is being held back specifically because of this show.
"I'm going to be real with you".
Though host Ryan Seacrest is returning to "Idol" and the same production company is behind the show, the revival of "Idol" is not trying to imitate the once-celebrated judges' panel of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. Executive producer Trish Kinane clarified the pop star's persona on the highly-anticipated reboot: "She's not mean, but she's brutally honest". "That really separates everything", she said. "I think that people once thought that the judges saw everyone, and now you know there's a line of producers who screen before them.We want the humor, but we don't want the exploitation". And that's the difference. "And then I get the call to do it".
Perry said all the judges this time around bring something unique to the panel. "... I don't think it's a big secret". Obviously, Luke can speak on a lot more country things. "I get wrapped up in the pageantry and the dreams coming true".
