Carolina Panthers shake up offensive coaching staff

Just before noon, the Carolina Panthers tweeted that Shula and Dorsey were released from the team.

So I wouldn't expect Rivera to wait long to replace offensive coordinator Mike Shula, who was sacked Tuesday after five seasons leading the Panthers' offense.

Shula was originally hired by the Panthers at the conclusion of the 2010 season in order to serve as the franchise's quarterbacks coach. The 52-year-old offensive mind spent one more season in the same capacity before he was promoted to his latest role as the team's offensive coordinator. This is how some Panthers fans hope to get him fired.

Ken Dorsey is out as the quarterbacks coach of the Carolina Panthers. The former University of Miami quarterback played six seasons in the National Football League (2003-08) before finishing his playing career in the CFL in 2010.

But Newton struggled for much of 2017 and the Panthers' season came to an early end on Sunday when they were beaten 31-26 by the New Orleans Saints in the Wildcard Round.

"After 2016's 6-10 finish, Rivera was under internal pressure to make a coordinator change".

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, the 2015 NFL MVP and the first pick of the 2011 draft, had 22 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions this season.

Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks is also expected to take a head coaching job this offseason, and is interviewing with the New York Giants Tuesday and Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday.
