The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) bounded onto the scene in 1998, set up by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), and is now celebrating its 10th anniversary with CES 2018.

The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) has kicked off in Las Vegas for five days of all-you-can-eat tech and gadgetry. Press events began on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8, but the full show takes place on Jan. 9 through Jan. 12. The technology show is covering 2.7 million square feet in Las Vegas and is scheduled to run until Friday.

According to a report published by BBC News, smart goggles that greatly augment vision will also be introduced during CES.

CES 2018 has become the first major event of the year to showcase the latest vehicle technology, too, and our sister title Auto Express will also be at the show bringing you the next-generation in motoring. Rumors are running rampant but expectation should be tempered due to each company's own shows.

"The Internet of Things is so vast and large that no one was really sure how it would work and whether it would all work together", Avi Greengart, research director for consumer platforms and devices at research firm GlobalData, said. It will have a large booth this year and is expected to make a splash.

The news and highlights to expect from CES 2018

Amazon has already announced new tools that will enable cooking appliances to connect to and be controlled by its virtual assistant Alexa.

"We predict that Amazon's Alexa will be more pervasive than ever, cropping up in numerous device categories, including cars, computers, fridges, lights, radios, TVs and more", he said.

I will be particularly keen to see the tech developments in IoT, artificial intelligence and augmented reality, especially given we are now closer to the launch of 5G.

Fellow South Korean tech giant Samsung was rumoured to be ready to fire back with a 150-inch television using new "Micro LED" technology, however, that could replace its current QLED television range and challenge OLED technology.

Last year's show drew about 185,000 attendees and 4,000 exhibitors.
