Detective Pikachu Release Date For 3DS Announced Alongside New, Huge Amiibo

Detective Pikachu is on the case, coming March 2018

Detective Pikachu Is Coming To America With A New Amiibo

It's nearly twice as tall as a regular Pikachu amiibo!

A new trailer for Detective Pikachu has been made available in Japan and in it, a brand new Detective Pikachu amiibo is revealed.

Playing as the young Tim Goodman, you'll partner up with gruff, battle hardened Pikachu as you investigate the disappearance of Tim's father.

The Pokémon Company has announced that Detective Pikachu will receive a worldwide release, exclusively for Nintendo 3DS. That Pikachu could prove vital to cracking the case, as he claims to have worked with Tim's father in the past. Together, Tim and Detective Pikachu will encounter a number of mysteries in Ryme City and will need to talk to witnesses and gather their testimony in order to discover the truth.

The first trailer for Detective Pikachu is certainly a little different. Nintendo says about the Detective Pikachu amiibo: "A talking Pikachu who Tim meets in Ryme City". It does sound like the voice actor poured at least a little Danny DeVito into his performance, which should be a nice consolation prize for all the fans who campaigned for DeVito to play the role. Along with the Detective Pikachu game, Nintendo is releasing a special giant amiibo to help players uncover every secret. These videos feature Detective Pikachu's "quips and antics" and may also contain clues. It's larger than a regular amiibo, and it allows players to view all the Pika Prompts (short video clips) from chapters they have completed, including ones they missed finding earlier.

Here's a peek at the interior of the New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition, which keeps the Pikachu color scheme going with brown ABXY face buttons and cross pad.

Great Detective Pikachu might be one of the strangest upcoming releases on any Nintendo platform. The corresponding amiibo arrives the same day, for $29.99 or the regional equivalent.
