We've been getting a lot of BTS videos and photos from the set, but now we have an official look of Hardy in character. Embedded below, it brought us up close and personal with Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock, a reporter (Boston Globe?) who's about to have his life upturned by an alien symbiote.
Based on previous reports, the film will be based on two major Venom story arcs. I'll be honest with you: it's not really a particularly shocking pic since Eddie Brock is just an average guy about Tom Hardy's age, so it kiiiinda just looks like Tom Hardy as. well, Tom Hardy.
This is a movie that's been a long time coming at Sony, and at one point was poised to be directed by Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy) as a spinoff of the then-planned Spider-Man universe revolving around the Amazing Spider-Man movies.
"We want to be as true as possible to the comic with our film", Fleisher said. Hardy and Fleischer recently appeared via satellite at Brazil Comic Con to tease the film. Also written by Michelinie, Planet of the Symbiotes follows Venom fighting an army of symbiotes with the help of Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider. In Ruben Fleischer's Venom, one of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector.
"I just wanted to say that I give you my word of honor that I'm going to do everything that I can to deliver the best Venom that I possibly can muster". Mostly because it's hard to imagine why Tom Hardy would even be in a Venom movie, not to mention Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate.
Writers Scott Rosenberg (Pain & Gain, Jumanji) & Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) wrote the script for the Venom film, which is set for an October 5, 2018 release date.
