Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say Brittany White, 24, was found deceased with a gunshot wound. The shootout came about six hours after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced they were searching for Bennett as the suspect in the killing of the mother of Bennett's 2-month-old baby.

Police said Jonathan Bennett was last seen driving a white Ford Expedition with NY license plate HUP3071. Last seen driving older white Ford Expedition with NY license plates HUP3071. A second child was found unharmed at the scene, police said. ABC affiliate WSOC-TV cited an unnamed source saying the search was called off after someone dropped Journei off at a north Charlotte home.

The cops, who were conducting a brief on an unrelated operation, fatally shot Bennett, who later died in the hospital, according to Putney.

"Times like this make you appreciate people who voluntarily put their lives on the line to keep us safe", Putney said, emphasizing that officers have a "dangerous job".

We checked into Bennett's criminal history.

A man who claims to be a neighbor and friend of Bennett said he was surprised to hear about the incident. He's been charged in the past with assault on a female, communicating threats and misdemeanor larceny.

"I'm at a loss for words".

A woman was shot and killed in west Charlotte Thursday afternoon in what Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are calling a domestic incident.

A CMPD officer was shot in the leg and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. "As far as body cameras, I doubt when you're being ambushed you think to turn on a camera". "I've never seen no aggression out of him", said Rahshawn Johnson.
