CEO Robert Iger and singer Katy Perry spoke at the 11:30 a.m. PST ceremony in front of the Disney-owned El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

And the Disney icon's famous female friends turned out in force to support her, as she received the honor of a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Monday.

Mickey became the first cartoon character to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Steamboat Willie in 1978. "And I want to thank all my friends from around the world".

Disney officials and pop star Katy Perry will unveil the star honoring the animated character.

"Her style is the epitome of fun fashion", noted Katy.

Known for her trademark polkadot dress, Minnie's ceremony was held on National Polkadot Day. "And Mickey, I'm so happy you're here to share this wonderful day to me", she said, blowing him a kiss. Trust me. I am trying.

She finished by noting, "So today, a brief 40 years after Mickey got his star, I'm delighted to honor Minnie and her magic with hers". "It is a special skill to bring joy to so many and she does it with an effortless bat of a lash".

Describing a scene of "pastel walls" with "the smell of baby powder" in the air, she said she first noticed the Disney character on her baby diapers - a moment that led to her "lifelong devotion" to Minnie, she said. Chairman and CEO Bob Iger also joined in on the festivities.

Other Disney children's idols who have had been honoured on the Walk of Fame include Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh and Snow White.
