The extensive changes are a reflection of the falloff in the Packers' play in going 7-9 after eight straight trips to the playoffs, quarterback Aaron Rodgers' broken collarbone notwithstanding. He hired McCarthy as head coach the following year, and the Packers won six NFC North titles under his watch.
Head Coach Mike McCarthy is scheduled to meet with the media for his season-ending press conference Thursday morning.
Capers has been the defensive coordinator for the Packers for nine seasons, originally joining Green Bay on January 19, 2009.
Murphy is leading the search for a replacement for general manager Ted Thompson, who is moving to an advisory role with the team.
James Campen the coach of the offensive line and the team's longest-tenured assistant coach with the Packers also is a possibility for the job of offensive coordinator.
While it's not fair to say the lack of success in Green Bay is all his fault. his piece of the pie is definitely the biggest.
Trgovac coached the defensive line for Green Bay since joining the team in 2009, his second stint with the organization after serving in the same position in 1999. "Frankly, I'm more concentrated on the fit of the GM". He left after two seasons to become the Giants' offensive coordinator, then was named head coach in 2016.
McCarthy lamented the "personal aspect" of the changes, which he said is "what keeps me up at night". McCurley worked his way up through the organization over the course of 12 years.
"When you say you have a standard at the Green Bay Packers, it stops right there", McCarthy said. He'll remain with the team as senior adviser of football operations.
And, he insisted, numerous changes would have happened even if Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr hadn't fractured Rodgers' right collarbone on October 15 in Minneapolis, sending a once-promising 4-1 season into a tailspin.
"The draft-and-develop still needs to be the core of who you are", McCarthy said. Injuries have plagued the cornerback position.
Although the winds of change are blowing through all levels of the Green Bay Packers football operation, it's possible we haven't seen anything yet.
McCarthy said the Packers "need to have the most competitive roster" in the league.
