I and a huge number of my supporters feel that I should go the the Rajya Sabha where I will be an articulate voice against the BJP and the Congress.
"I congratulate Gupta for working with Manish Sisodia for the last 40 years, with Kejriwal for 12 years, with party workers for seven years and for party legislators for the last five years".
Disgruntled leader Kumar Vishwas, who was angling for an RS slot, did not attend the PAC meeting.
Kumar Vishwas, a popular AAP leader, however, appealed to the AAP workers to continuing their tirade against corruption and one-upmanship in the party.
Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday named a prominent chartered accountant, Narain Dass Gupta, businessman and social activist Sushil Gupta and party functionary Sanjay Singh as nominees for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled on January 16.
Maken also criticised AAP's nomination of Sushil Gupta for the Rajya Sabha, saying, "When he came to submit his resignation from the Congress, he told me that he was offered a Rajya Sabha seat by the AAP". "We accept the choices of the party", a couple of MLAs told TOI after the meeting was over while another said: "Nobody listens to the MLAs anyway". The first name is Sanjay Singh, Sanjay Singh has worked for the party and society. Kumar Vishwas was earlier seen to be a contender for a seat but there are indications from the party that he will not be fielded.
But, the party this time made a decision to select candidates from the field of law, economics and social work.
The move to not field any party leader to the Rajya Sabha is also seen as an attempt to put an end to the intra-party rivalry.
Those approached included former RBI chief Raghuram Rajan, ex-BJP minister Arun Shourie and former CJI T.S. Thakur. But his frequent run-ins with Mr Kejriwal, who accuses Mr Vishwas of plotting to overthrow him as AAP chief, cancelled the chances of the poet-politician.
Given AAP's strong majority in the Delhi Assembly, it is likely that their candidates will win the Rajya Sabha election.
