Former Shiv Sena corporator Ashok Sawant stabbed to death outside his residence in Kandivali

According to the media reports the CCTV cameras installed in the area have captured the images of the killers and they have been identified

MUMBAI: mysterious attacker stabbed Shiv Sena leader Ashok Sawant to put on death outside his house in Kandivli in Mumbai on late Sunday. "We can not reveal more at this moment", said Vinay Rathod, deputy commissioner of police (zone XII). The killing took place near Sawant's residence in Thakur Complex while he was returning home with his friend Vinod Sonawane.

According to media sources, the deceased had entered in a cable business and had been getting continually extortion calls for the last few days. The police are also yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder and recover the murder weapon. Though Dodhia was not present at the scene of the crime, but the police suspect that he had awarded Jogdand the contract to kill Sawant at behest of the main accused. "He died of excessive blood loss". Sawant is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Incidentally, one of his daughters was slated to get married on February 5.

As per preliminary investigation, the police suspect that one of the accused Jagdish Pawar, who previously had a fallout with Sawant over a financial dispute, is the main killer. "We are waiting for the postmortem report".

Sawant was a two-time corporator and his brother, Subhash Sawant, is an Assistant Commissioner of Police with the Anti Terrorism Squad.

An FIR has been led under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the Samata Nagar police station, reported India Today. CCTV footage of the building is being observed to identify the culprits.
