Three takeaways from Titans' win over Chiefs

Saturday night was not a good one to be a home team in the NFL Playoffs, with both the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams falling while the favorites to go through to the Divisional Round.

Alex Smith, left, has been mentoring rookie Patrick Mahomes II, but there will be no changing of the guard yet. And if that is the case, Smith's career in Kansas City will be summed up by that errant throw over the middle.

The Chiefs are 1-11 in their past 12 playoff games. "We're ready for them".

"I mentioned (Saturday) that he called the good ones and I called the bad ones", Reid said.

"That is not where I am at", Reid said.

"No", he said. "I haven't had any support to say that I was (secure). No". Right now, I'm obviously disappointed. I can play a lot better. "It's gone. It's over".

The Titans erased a 21-3 Kansas City Chiefs lead behind their two young offensive stars in Marcus Mariota and Derrick Henry to score the franchise's first playoff win since 2003.

Smith certainly made it a tougher decision than most had expected.

In comparing Quarterbacks, Alex Smith has over 4000 yards through the air and 26 touchdowns on the season compared to Mariota who has thrown 13 touchdowns but has thrown 15 interceptions.

The catch shocked everyone and was the first time ever a player had thrown a touchdown pass to himself during a playoff game.

Reid has professed his admiration for Smith countless times over the years, and he was in favor of the trade that brought him to Kansas City from San Francisco. He also led National Football League with 104.7 rating. The Titans certainly have some impressive wins under their belt this year, but they've also been shackled by the fact that Marcus Mariota, the team's starting quarterback, simply hasn't been completely healthy for some time. "And they came through today when we really needed it". After that happened, the Titans started to believe they would win.

RETIREMENT QUESTIONS: Chiefs linebackers Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali could consider hanging it up after another letdown. Unders is my play at [1.84] on the Exchange. If he does not retire, the Chiefs will nearly certainly release him. The two toned blue and their fans will need to wait until Sunday however, to know their next playoff opponent.

The Chiefs also have two outstanding receivers in Tyreek Hill (who gives them one of the leagues most risky return specialists, as well) and tight end Travis Kelce. Coach Mike Mularkey said Henry went the wrong way on the play. That's my responsibility as the head coach of the football team.

"At the end of the year, our hopes went down", said Murray.
