Newcastle United Hero Martin Dubravka Tackles Permanent Magpies Switch Talk

Newcastle stalwart explains how Benitez led Magpies to win over Man United

"We were doing well for a while and then we were defending but the teamwork and the way they fought for every ball was awesome. Still we have 11 games to play".

"Man United have some world-class players, but it seemed like we just wanted it a lot more. He is learning and if he can make the right decisions he is a very good player". The way that we were playing, with everybody giving everything, was absolutely fantastic.

Martial and Michael Carrick both went painfully close to claiming a late equaliser but Newcastle stood firm to register their first win at home since October.

"It was a case of waiting because we have 15 days now before the next game so we can keep working with him".

"Now we have those three points we come out of it". You remember every play, every moment, and you try to change the outcome but obviously that's impossible. That's the positive thing that allows you to attack and sustain your attacks.

"We did it most of the time, and at the end we got that goal and we defended as a team".

"Even without this (Huddersfield) result we knew we had to do everything to win, but being in the bottom three before the game was a bad feeling so this is what we had to do".

That goal was enough to hand Rafa Benitez a memorable win over old adversary Mourinho, who has now lost to the Magpies boss on six occasions in his career.

Newcastle looked sharp from the start and Chris Smalling somehow avoided giving away a penalty after up-ending Dwight Gayle - a let-off the visitors looked set to use as the platform to build on.

But Lascelles believes United failed to turn up and the way Newcastle played forced them into errors.

The visitors unleashed a deluge of attacks, but Benitez's men just managed to batten down the hatches, wih debutant keeper Martin Dubravka impressing.
