India warns Pakistan will pay for Jammu attack'misadventure

India has long accused Pakistan of training and arming militants and helping them infiltrate across the line of control (LoC) that separates the two sides in the region.

"It is a well-established pattern that Indian officials begin making irresponsible statements and levelling unfounded allegations, even before any proper investigation in any incident has been initiated", the Foreign Office spokesperson said, when asked about the attack on Sunjwan Army camp in Jammu.

The defence minister said, "I wouldn't certainly state a timeline (for action against Pakistan)".

Jammu this time appeared to be the new theatre for militancy, as army camps came under attack and Ms Mehbooba is now under greater pressure. Three terrorists were also gunned down.

Sitharaman also corrected the earlier death toll given by police, who said 10 including four attackers had been killed in the attack.

Lashing out at Pakistan for being involved in terror funding in Jammu and Kashmir, Nirmala Sitharaman said Islamabad would pay a heavy price for the "misadventure".

He said 192 Pakistani soldiers have been killed in retaliation by Indian forces after Pakistan attacked Indian posts. On Friday a woman was killed as Pakistani troops fired on civilian habitations in Poonch area of Jammu region, while firing continued on Sunday. "Pakistan is expanding the arch of terror to areas south of Pir Panjal and resorting to ceasefire violations to assist infiltration", Sitharaman added.

The officer claimed the "Pakistan Army had a direct role in planning attacks in Jammu and Kashmir", which is divided between India and Pakistan.

Terming Pakistan a "proxy" of China, senior People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig has said India must understand the dynamics between the two countries to "tackle" the Kashmir issue. One of these evidences was that the attack was carried out by JeM which, she said, was being sponsored by Moulana Masood Azhar who lives in Pakistan. "I repeat, Pakistan will pay for it".

Sitharaman said the intrusions of the terrorists was promptly detected by the sentry and challenged by a nearby QRT leading to the brief exchange of fire. She complemented the valour of soldiers for carrying out the entire operation with precision. She was speaking at a press conference followed by a meeting with the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. There were reports of 4 terrorists.
