Sources said that he was admitted to a hospital after he complained of breathing trouble. He had been ailing for some time.

He also tried his hand in mediating the Ayodhya dispute unsuccessfully.

During his tenure as Head of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, the institution expanded its horizons through its educational and medical institutions. However, 3 days after he disappeared, he was traced in Karnataka but the reason why he disappeared is still unknown. In November 2013, the Puducherry Sessions Court acquitted both the seers.
