If you're a fan of Square Enix's RPGs that aren't necessarily Final Fantasy, then you might have heard that past year, the company announced that they would be launching a new RPG called Octopath Traveler.

Today's Nintendo Direct revealed more than just a release date, however. The new footage introduces another two of the role-playing game's protagonists and their special abilities. Also, a special edition will be available upon launch. Tressa is a merchant who has the Purchase ability that allows her to buy items from nearly every NPC in the game. The Wayfarer's edition consists of an eight-page pop-up book that reflects the game's art style and design, a double-sided map of the game's world, a game card, a replica of the in-game currency, and a Sound Selections CD.

It further offered a brief preview of the game's job system during the stream, along with its worldwide release date scheduled on July 13. It also detailed the games job system, which allows players to combine specialties to "enhance strategic options" in combat.

Alfyn, meanwhile, is an apothecary. His path action is "Acquire", which allows him to get info others are not privy to in conversations.

Square Enix intentionally developed Octopath Traveler with the unique visual design called "HD-2D", a mix of 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds. Along with that, a collector's edition of the game will be available at retail shops.
