Child's Body Found Along NorCal River In Search For Missing Family

The five bodies were recovered days after authorities in Washington State began investigating the couple for possible child neglect.

That's the same area where a family of four that vanished during a road trip from Portland, Ore., to their home in Santa Clarita, Calif., is last known to have been, the San Jose Police Department told the Associated Press. The California Highway Patrol developed information this family were traveling in a family vehicle, a 2016 maroon Honda Pilot.

The teams accessed the river in inflatable boats and on River Boards, a small floatation device created to allow full access under overhanging trees or tight areas not accessible by boat.

Officials say remains may belong to one of three missing siblings of the Hart family after mysterious SUV crash.

Personal belongings of a missing Santa Clarita family have been found along a Northern California river where it is believed they may have been swept away in heavy rains. "Also located were various personal items that were consistent with a family traveling on vacation".

The Mendocino County Sheriffs Office has been in contact with numerous other county dive teams and technical rescue responders that can be called upon, when the vehicle is located, to assist with recovery of the vehicle.

The family was traveling in a Maroon Honda Pilot.

"Some of these items were consistent with a Honda vehicle", the CHP said in the Facebook post. The family was scheduled to arrive to visit a friend in the San Jose area on April 6, but never showed up, authorities said. "We are doing everything within our power to locate this vehicle and to bring some closure to whoever the occupants may be".

A "missing" poster shared by household and mates on Fb acknowledged the Thottapilly relations as 42-year-old Sandeep, 38-year-old Soumya, 12-year-old Siddhanty and 9-year-old Saachi.

Investigators began to examine the possibility that the disappearance might be linked to a report that the highway patrol received on April 6 of a vehicle plummeting into the Eel River from US 101, a north-south highway that runs through Washington State, Oregon and California. The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office also searched with its jet boat with a side scan sonar system, sheriff's officials said. The California Highway Patrol said this week that a submerged vehicle had been spotted but then lost in the current.

The CHP will do a complete mechanical inspection of the vehicle as part of its accident investigation.

Farther south along the Mendocino County coast, authorities continue to look for members of a family missing since an SUV made a deadly and possibly intentional plunge off a towering ocean bluff along State Route 1 last month.

Search crews Friday morning recovered a child's body from the Eel River, a week after a missing Southern California family's vehicle fell into its waters during an intense rainstorm.
