John Cena and Nikki Bella Call It Quits Break Engagement

"When [Cena] proposed, he convinced [Bella] that he was a changed man".

Nikki Bella broke plenty of fans' hearts when she announced on Sunday, April 15 that she and longtime love John Cena had split after six years together. "One of the bigger disagreements they had through their relationship was that Nikki wanted to start a family and John didn't", said the source. It's no secret that they didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things, but, when you're in love, you turn a blind eye. While Nikki shared an official statement about their decision on her Instagram account, John has yet to share any words of his own- but he has shared a series of quotes and memes explaining how he feels. 'He talked a really good game about having changed, about having his priorities straight, about knowing what's important, and that it was her'.

Early Monday morning Cena took to Twitter to share an anecdote about "perseverance" i.e. a little ol' "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" which would make one think that Cena wasn't too happy about the decision to split. Still, he never changed his mind about having children, something that was brought up on multiple occasions on the E! reality shows Total Divas and Total Bellas.

"John acted more and more like he was doing her a favor by somehow conceding to go ahead and marry her", the source said.

"The source continued, "[Nikki] doesn't need a pity proposal, a pity wedding, a pity husband. You can read down below what she had to say publicly.

This fall, the 40-year-old actor and Bella, 34, had also reportedly pushed their original wedding date, at the time citing "schedules" as the reason.

All of that seemed to be behind them though when, last year, John promised to Nikki in the middle of the ring, in front of millions of viewers, after their tag match at WrestleMania 33.

"While this decision was a hard one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another", the couple said in a statement to E! "We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives", they added.
