Mourinho hits out at inconsistent and "complicated" United

Manchester United's French midfielder Paul Pogba celebrates scoring their second goal to equalise 2-2 during the English Premier League football match between Manchester City and Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, north west England, on April 7, 2018. Pogba, who was outstanding in the 3-2 win at Manchester City eight days ago, has played his way out of a dip in form that led to him being dropped from United's first team earlier this year, and Mourinho wants to see his recent improvement maintained. If I expect him to score goals every match? No.

"So, if you ask me if I'm expecting Paul now to be man of the match every week? No".

"I think he has to keep that stability and with that stability will appear the special match like it happened against City".

Herrera was signed by Louis Van Gaal from Atletico Bilbao and has had a decent few years at the club though he best campaign came last season under Jose Mourinho's management. "From my discussions with the owners already, I know there is a genuine desire to build a team with greater goal power and attacking threat which can capture the fans' imagination", he said. The easy thing would be to go out of Europe and then collapse in the league through motivation going down.

United have spent more on individual players than their neighbours and rivals, though with the arrival of Alexis Sánchez in January Mourinho does not foresee the need for enormous outlay in summer.

The home defeat against United, which was sandwiched between the back-to-back Champions League quarterfinal losses to Liverpool, will be held up as a reminder that City can be beaten and perhaps even caught next season, while the FA Cup exit against Wigan Athletic may go down as the game that cost Guardiola and his team a domestic treble.

"If we finish second no one is going to be able to deny us the points total, and it will be hard to say anyone apart from City was better than us. We are not going to do anything insane", said Mourinho.

"Remember he was terrific last season as far as I'm concerned".

"They won the title because they were the best team".

Paul Pogba scored the equaliser against Manchester City.

"I saw lots of people on the moon because we won against City".

The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table in their bid to improve upon their finish last term.
