In a gruesome reminder of the Kathua rape case, the mutilated body of 11-year-old girl recovered from Gujarat's Surat Bhestan locality was likely held captive, tortured and raped over a period of time, said the police on Sunday.
Mumbai: Amid nationwide outrage against Kathua, Unnao and rape cases in other parts of the country, the post mortem report of the 10-year-old girl whose dead body was found recently said she was raped, kept captive and tortured before being strangled to death.
According to Padesara police inspector KB Jhala the girl's picture had been circulated on social media platforms to avail her identity.
Ganesh Govekar, a doctor at the city civil hospital where the post-mortem was conducted, said there were as many as 86 injury marks on the body of the girl. Her body bore 86 injury marks, including in private parts.
The case details are a chilling reminder of Kathua gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, which has rocked the entire country.
The Police Commissioner appealed to people to come forward and help the police establish the identity of the girl. Police still haven't been able to identify the girl or her parents, but suspect she was murdered somewhere else and dumped near the ground. Her photo has been sent to the state police control room for "identification process".
He said police have registered a case of rape and also booked the unidentified accused under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The police have announced a Rs 20,000 reward for anyone helping in identifying the girl or giving information about the culprits, Sharma said. "We are focusing on Odisha and West Bengal, as she is likely to be from either of the two states", he said, adding that so far police have scanned data of 8,000 missing children. "No piece of evidence was found from the spot in Pandesara".
The police have also displayed 1200 posters across Surat city. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been roped in the investigation.
In the Unnao case, the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government has been blamed for trying to shield the influential party MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar who was accused of raping a 17 year-old girl in June last year.
