Popular Indian singer Parmish Verma shot at in Mohali

Popularly known for his song, "Gaal Nahin Kadhnai", Punjabi singer Parmish Verma was shot at by some unidentified assailants in Mohali.

Verma and his friend were shot on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday in Mohali while they were on their way back home after attending a promotional event at Elante Mall in the city. A police official said a bullet hit Parmish's leg, but he was out of danger. According to police reports, the popular singer was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Mohali, where he is now undergoing treatment. Police initiated investigation after registering a case of attempt to murder against unidentified persons at industrial area police post.

Punjab Police sources say he is into extortion and contract killing. Dhahan had uploaded a status on his Facebook account with a picture of himself holding a pistol with Verma's picture with a cross drawn on it next to it.

A gangster Dilpreet Singh Dhahan has claimed the responsibility for firing at Verma.

Apart from Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, members of the Sampat Nehra gang have also claimed responsibility for the attack, according to news agency IANS. It was also not clear why Mr Verma was attacked either.

Dhahan's Facebook post read, "Mein dilpreetsinghdhahansariya nu dasnachaunda k ajjparmishverma de goliyabazianapamariya(I, Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, want to tell everyone that I am behind the shooting of Parmish Verma)". Parmish's latest track Gaal Nahin garnered over 118 million views on YouTube in just three weeks.
