She achieved this feat on Saturday at the Gold Coast 2018 Games, beating Singapore's Mengyu Yu in straight games. Earlier this week, India won gold in the team event.

Mo Zhang and Tianwei Feng will now battle it out for the bronze medal, also on Saturday. On Friday, the Indian men's team failed to recover from a poor start, losing to New Zealand 2-3 in a semi-final. In the other match, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Pooja Saharabudhe lost the bronze medal match 1-3 (13-15, 7-11, 11-8, 7-11) to Ho Ying and Lyne Karen of Malaysia. In an extensive 71 minute encounter, Nehwal won 21-14, 18-21, 21-17.

Batra had beaten Tracy Feng of Australia in the round of 16, Yihan Zhou of Singapore in quarters and Tianwel Feng in semis to make the final.

Meanwhile, Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan have entered the men's doubles final and are sure of medals.

India also has two semi-finalists in the mixed doubles competition while Sharath and Batra are the lone Indians left in the singles draw. Chopra hurled the javelin to a distance of 80.42 metres to take the second place in Group A of the qualification round.
