Sources said Sengar's questioning is going on at the CBI office in Lucknow. The girl and her family have claimed that they had been threatened by the MLA, his brothers and also by police asking them not to name Sengar in the complaint.
April 8, 2018: Girl attempts suicide outside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home in Lucknow, accusing him of shielding the minister.
Upto six police personnel were suspended for allegedly beating up the victim's father, who died on April 9.
As the public outcry raged amid growing demands by political parties and civil society for the legislator's arrest, protests were also held outside Adityanath's house.
The court then asked the Advocate General whether the government proposes to arrest Sengar.
The Uttar Pradesh government had referred the matter to the CBI which registered the case after getting reference from the centre on Thursday night.
Senior Advocate G S Chaturvedi, who had moved the court, said the SIT headed by senior police officers conducted preliminary investigation and then filed a report after which the FIR was registered.
"Police was not ready to register FIR of the minor rape victim. What we mean is that we have to hear both sides", DGP Singh said. He said that the government has made a decision to provide adequate security to the victim and her family and other witnesses in the case.
Kumar also dismissed allegations that police was trying to shield the MLA, and said it was because of these charges that the probe was being given to the CBI.
On Tuesday, the MLA's brother Atul Singh, along with three others, was arrested from Unnao on the directions of the DGP, by the Lucknow crime branch team.
The Allahabad High Court took up suo motu cognisance of the case on Wednesday and on Thursday took a strong notice of the delay in the accused MLA's arrest.
