Abbas Thanks Venezuela, Encourages Latin American Nations Not to Move Embassies

Before scheduled for the 14th may by the transfer of the U.S. Embassy in Israel from tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the USA government published information about the change in the work of the Embassy complexes in tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Jerusalem and tel Aviv consular offices and diplomatic missions in Haifa and representatives in the territory of the Palestinian authority.

The decision, which had already been announced by Israel, was taken by President Horacio Cartes.

A traffic island located next to the new American embassy in Jerusalem will be named in honour of the United States and President Donald Trump. The Paraguayan statements did not indicate if Cartes would go to Israel for the ceremony.

Cartes' decision irked some within Paraguay as well.

"President Trump has chose to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish people, to stand on the side of the truth, and to do the right thing", Barkat said in a statement.

"We hope that some countries across Latin America will not go moving their embassies to Jerusalem because that is against worldwide law", he told Maduro in Caracas.

US President Donald Trump overturned decades of US policy past year by announcing the Jerusalem move.

Foreign embassies are now located in Tel Aviv and its environs, as the worldwide community has balked at recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, until the status of the city is set via a peace deal with the Palestinians.

Last month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at least six countries were considering moving their Israeli embassies to Jerusalem.

Other countries have also stated they may want relocate their embassies.
