Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilian defender Daniel Alves has been ruled out of the World Cup. There will be no words coming from Dani Alves.

Alves has played 107 times for Brazil since making his debut in 2006 and looked a certain starter for Tite's team at the World Cup finals in Russian Federation where Brazil are grouped with Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia.

But Alves, who has won three Champions Leagues, a Copa America and league titles in Spain, Italy, and France, was not dwelling on his misfortune.

"When I felt the pain in my knee, my soul left my body", he said in a letter published at "The Players Tribune" website.

Local options. The spotlight will be on the 28-year-old Fagner as a possible choice at right back for Dani Alves, who out the World Cup with a knee injury suffered last week.

"I don't want anybody to cry for me". I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me, I've lived my dreams. Brazil are set to announce their World Cup squad Monday. I only cried one time, when I was by myself.

The 35 year will require surgery and there is no chance of him getting fit in time for the tournament which kicks off in mid June. Who knows, maybe when the 2022 World Cup comes around, I will still be competing for a place on the team.

The PSG player has been out since February with an injured foot but was back in training this week.

According to Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, Alves will need at least six months to recover from the operation to fix a detached anterior cruciate ligament.

Tuneups. Brazil will play Croatia in Liverpool on June 3 and Austria in Vienna on June 10.

Brazil are in Group E with Costa Rica, Serbia and Switzerland, and play their first match on Sunday, 17 June.
