The announcement comes after the network officially handed out a sixth-season renewal to the Marvel series last night, consisting of 13-episodes.
ABC moved the show to Fridays for its fifth season, pairing it with fellow Marvel show "Inhumans", which was not renewed for a second season. Whether or not this is the case (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be setting itself early on in the film's timeline so far) it's clear that Thanos' power will have an indelible effect on the show as it continues.
ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey has revealed that the next season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won't make its debut until Summer 2019.
"I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet", she told attendees. Still, don't think the show has been that great this season and wish the group was more involved with the MCU movies.
Even non-fans are now curious to see how the Season 5 finale (airing this Friday) will address the big twist in Avengers: Infinity War, which could set up a very different board for Season 6. The schedule bump gives the S.H.I.E.L.D. creative team an extra few months to map out its storyline, and timing-wise, it could potentially put the next season of S.H.I.E.L.D. closer to the release of Avengers 4: Actual Title Still Secret on May 3, 2019.
For now get ready for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 finale, which airs this Friday on ABC.
You're going to have to wait a while for new episodes of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
