From what we have seen in the trailer so far, this film will totally deliver on the same. Obviously spoilers lurk beneath the divide, and you're only hurting yourself if you read on. But as written by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Reynolds (making his screenwriting debut), the film almost always zags where you expect it to zig, keeping the audience on its collective toes the entire time. If so, this article will be updated. This, according to Deadpool was not what they had in mind.
We'll still break them up separately, though. When asked whether the existence of Avengers: Infinity War will affect Deadpool 2's collections, he said, "Everybody who wanted to watch Avengers has watched it and it has done what it was supposed to do at the box office". That approach worked really well for the first movie, but the filmmakers knew they couldn't possibly use the same formula for Deadpool's sophomore outing as well, which is why we are treated to a more complex and moving plot in Deadpool 2.
Whether this scene makes Vanessa's survival canonical is a little unclear, but it certainly opens up the possibility of Baccarin being back for future sequels.
Deadpool 2, then, feels more like a circling of wagons than it does a middle finger to the expectations of anyone buying a ticket to a superhero film.
Brolin will reprise his role in Avengers 4, scheduled for release in one year.
It remains to be seen how the looming Disney-Fox deal could affect the "X-Force" movie, but Reynolds isn't concerned: "I would assume that it's just gonna be business as usual, but f-- if I know", he told Collider.
After the success of Deadpool, we expected the sequel to go bigger, raunchier, funnier and better. It went on to earn over $783 million against a $58 million budget to become the overall highest-grossing R-rated film of all-time (as of 2016) and the highest-grossing X-Men film.
"My 1-year-old daughter would just sob, I mean for hours after seeing me". What even is canon?
It's also quite a neat way of having a Hugh Jackman cameo without undermining Wolverine's emotional death in 2017's Logan, so well done everyone for that.
But with Deadpool 2 now screening to rave reviews around the world you'd think the Merc With A Mouth would give his, well... mouth a rest.
It is, as postmodern critics would say, a meta-film.
What I realized in watching Deadpool 2 is that these movies are best thought of as "what if the Scary Movie guys made a superhero movie?"
We then hear a gunshot and the script is splashed with blood. I sure hope so, because writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are developing a new Clue film with Ryan Reynolds, say that just might happen. But don't expect the new Clue to be a carbon copy of 1985 film adaptation. With writers going insane with the jokes, Deadpool 2 doesn't give us the opportunity to adjust with its shifting tone (a tragic scene is immediately followed by the humourous credits sequence).
