Luke Shaw has failed to impress manager Jose Mourinho despite several chances, and with defenders Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind also set to leave the club, the Portugese has had to rely on converted defender Ashley Young to deputise in the absence of a better option.
"I'm going to have coaches, assistant coaches, fitness coaches and a structure where they have specialists in different areas connected to performance".
"I think it will be Michael Carrick in the future", he said. When he has his badges, when he has his pro-licence, when he makes the bridge from player to assistant.
Mourinho handed Carrick his 464th and final appearance in the 1-0 victory over Watford and the midfielder was given both a pre-match guard of honour and a standing ovation as he left the pitch at Old Trafford.
"He was injured in training yesterday", Mourinho added. "He had treatment in the morning at the training ground and he stayed away".
He said, "It's hard because he is my friend, 17 years is a long time".
"I don't know [when he will return]".
'I'm waiting for the doctor but when it's impossible to play today, I have my doubts (for the Cup final)'.
"However, I have felt for some time that I would like to spend much more quality time with my family before pursuing any new challenge in my professional life".
"If that moment arrives, I will be a very proud guy because this man came to me when he was a kid 17 years ago". The process of education is something I like to do.
Faria, Mourinho's long-serving number two, is stepping down from his role at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
"I have nobody in the world of football ready to be my assistant manager, so I prefer to educate people and to structure my staff in a way where there is education and improvement". Click any of these buttons below!
