KXAS reports the gunman entered a home in Ponder Wednesday morning and shot five people before turning the gun on himself.

"I didn't even know if they owned the house or rented", Booker said. She tightly held a picture of her three children.

Hinojosa said he had no ages or identities of the dead and wounded.

In her Facebook post, Simpson said she had been shot and was likely facing more surgeries.

Dispatchers received a call at around 8:28 a.m. about a self-inflicted gunshot victim at a Ponder home and, while police were en route, they were notified of multiple other victims, the Denton County Sheriff's Office said.

News of the murder-suicide shocked residents of the suburban town with a population of less than 1,400 people.

A vehicle is towed as Denton County Sheriff's officers investigate the crime scene.

Neighbor Natalie Carr, who lives across the street from where the shooting occurred, said three children lived in the home. Ponder ISD said it had no students or staff listed at the home's address nor any absences that would raise alarms. That one surviving victim was transported to Medical City Denton, but the individual's condition is still not known at this time.
