"Looking at the statistics over the last three years: Of at least 30 possessions, out of all the guys that guarded Al Horford, Tristan has been No. 1 in the league defending Al Horford", Lue revealed Monday.
"So that's a good thing to know", Lue said.
The Cavs center played just 21 minutes in his team's 108-83 Game 1 loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday, racking up eight points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Even though the five players who started Game 1 - James, J.R. Smith, Kevin Love, Kyle Korver and George Hill - were the same ones who had swept the Raptors in the conference semifinals. Thompson has a favorable track record against the Celtics center, who the Cavs are facing for the fourth consecutive postseason.
"Horford is playing very well right now and he's shooting the crap out of the ball", Thompson said. "We didn't play well [in Game 1] with that lineup that got us to this point".
"I think missing shots offensively kind of carried over to our defense", Lue said.
After the Boston Celtics beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Celtics forward Al Horford said that the Celtics made lineup changes [VIDEO] in order to pair up successfully with the Cavaliers.
"That's a good question".
"I'll just be myself, be active early", Thompson said. "We're very flexible, and we'll change it if we feel like we need it".
"I think in the first half we were a little soft", Love said Monday, according ton ESPN's Dave McMenamin. Get the app and get the game. "I mentioned those guys have been playing extremely well in the Playoffs". It was the biggest loss for a LeBron James-led team in recent playoff memory, and they have to play stronger. I just think they took advantage of mismatches and we weren't able to get there. "Obviously when I check in the game, I'll try to bring that toughness and that energy". But our starters gotta be ready to throw the first punch. We need them to do that. We need them to be physical and set a tone early. "If they do that from opening tip, it makes it easy for the second unit to come in and keep that energy going". It also remains to be seen how Boston will answer if Lue does decide to go big, whether they will matchup with Cleveland or try to spread them out with their collection of athletic wings.
"Usually when Bron has these kind of games, the next game he does something legendary", said Thompson.
"We've got to help 'Bron", he said. "The more effective we are, the more it opens up for him".
Usually, they take the typical path for National Basketball Association players after they struggle: they missed shots, the other team made plays, one game at a time, etc. Game 2 is not going to be a blowout.
"We had a bad game".
