National Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray agreed with his cousin. Before that, party leadership was in talks with Janata Dal for an alliance of the party. According to sources, the Congress wants to ensure that the BJP is stalled from setting up government in Bengaluru ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as it will deal a blow to Opposition morale. The election in Raja Rajeshwari Nagar seat was delayed to May 28 due to the recovery of a large number of voter ID cards. The Karnataka election results 2018 are significant for the ruling Congress as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is hoping to make a comeback in this southern state. Such (convention-based) decisions were not taken in Goa and Manipur (where hung assemblies emerged after polls).

He claimed that the image of the BJP and its chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa was "not good" because of the allegations of corruption.

As per early trends, BJP is leading in 27 seats and has won 77.The Congress is leading in 32 seats and has won 46, while the JD (S) has won 23 and is leading in 14 seats.

In all, 2,622 candidates, including 217 women contested for the seats, which had 36 reserved for Scheduled Castes and 15 for the Scheduled Tribes. "The BJP's politics in this regard is better than that of the Congress", he remarked.

All eyes are now on Governor Vajubhai Vala who will have to decide whether to call BJP to try to form the government or go with the JD (S)-Congress combine, which together have a clear majority in the 224-member Assembly. "If you (BJP) trust yourself, hold elections through ballot papers once", he said in Mumbai after the Karnataka results. While the NCP will contest the Bhandara-Gondia seat, the Congress will fight the Palghar seat.
