Liverpool’s Joe Gomez in action

Joe Gomez will not play again this season, and he's likely to miss the World Cup too, after undergoing surgery on his injured ankle.

The 20-year-old's season is over after an operation to correct a long-standing ankle injury.

In March, Gomez sustained an ankle injury while representing the Three Lions in a friendly with the Netherlands but the youngster returned after a month on the sidelines to feature in two top-flight contests for the Merseyside giants. "I'm going to do all I can to get back and be in the best possible shape for pre season".

This season Mažić has been referee for four games in the Champions League and two in the Europa League.

The 20-year-old, who made his England debut last year, will also not be fit for the World Cup in June. Thank you for all the support over the course of the season??

Milorad Mazic of Serbia will referee the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid on May 26 in Kiev, Ukraine, UEFA said on Monday.

Gomez's injury limits further manager Jurgen Klopp's options ahead of Sunday's final Premier League match at home to Brighton.

"It's my life, it's our life, that we always make it a little bit more exciting", Klopp told liverpoolfc.com.

However, the defender needed surgery to fix the issue and as such, he won't be part of Liverpool's squad for the Champions League final in Kiev at the end of May.
