According to the U.S. News & World Report, CHW is among the top 50 in Cancer, Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Diabetes and Endocrine, Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, and Pulmonary.
"As Guardians of Childhood we count on our team for the brightest medical minds, the most compassionate care, and the latest and most innovative treatment options for children, " says Joan Magruder, hospital president. The rankings offer families an array of detailed information about each hospital's performance.
To earn a spot on the top 50 list, hospitals must perform at the highest level in at least three specialty areas. Hospitals were ranked based on patient outcomes, including mortality and infection rates, clinical resources and compliance with best practices. The rankings will also be published in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2018 guidebook. The list details institutions which are considered to offer the best care for complex and rare conditions that children can face. Located within UVA Medical Center, UVA Children's Hospital includes 111 beds, a dedicated pediatric emergency department, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for infants, and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for children younger than 18.
