The president plans to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12 in Singapore, the first leaders' summit between two countries that are still formally at war.
First Lady Melania Trump will make an appearance at a White House event on Monday. The White House said that Melania Trump had surgery for a "benign kidney condition" on May 14.
The first lady has not been seen in public for more than 20 days, and all sorts of unusual events and conspiracy theories have sprung up in the wake of her "vanishing".
She has stayed out of public view since returning home on May 19.
The closest first lady parallel to Mrs. Trump's time out of the public spotlight is Bess Truman, who did few events as first lady because of discomfort around the media, said Anita McBride, a veteran of three Republican administrations who last served as chief of staff to first lady Laura Bush.
Melania did attend last year's G7 summit in Italy and the G20 summit in Hamburg last July, but spent the first day of the latter gathering in her hotel suite due to violent protests.
Melania herself has dismissed speculation over her whereabouts, insisting she is at the White House in a tweet sent last Wednesday from her official account-although even this did not prevent people from speculating that the tweet may not have been sent by Melania.
"I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing". The U.S. first lady, 48, has not been seen in public since May 10 when she and the president welcomed home three Americans who had been held prisoner in North Korea. Everyone I know can't stop talking about where the first lady is.
Picture one: He showed Melania as though she were a character in A Clockwork Orange and wrote: "Don't worry folks".
