This year Sony, who makes the Playstation, made a decision to open their conference with a trailer for the hotly anticipated game "The Last Of Us 2". The humans who remain are often just as violent, killing each other for supplies and fighting for survival. On top of that, enemies appear to be more coordinated now, and Naughty Dog's overhauled engine looks incredible. That didn't last long though: the trailer then cut off to her brutally stabbing a guy in the neck. Moments later, she's led to the dance floor by a female friend - Nina. The trailer opens with protagonist Ellie, who is openly gay, sharing a kiss with another girl. "We're making a game about the cycle of violence and we're making a statement about violent actions and the impact they have on the character that's committing them and on the people close to them", he told Kotaku. A game like The Last of Us depends more on story than anything else, and we're only going to see snippets during a pre-release press conference.
Needless to say, for the gaming world, which has historically been overwhelmingly dominated by the tastes of heterosexual men, this is a big moment - one that fans of the series have been obsessing over on social media in the time since.
