Like yesterday's new Wreck-It Ralph 2 trailer, the Lego Movie 2 teaser contains a similar meta-joke in which the characters acknowledge the patriarchal attitudes of earlier films in the franchise. They are joined by Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro as, respectively, new characters Queen Watevra WaNabi, Sweet Mayhem and Ice Cream Cone.
The Second Part is officially beginning to spill its promotional campaign all over the floor.
After the success of The Lego Movie, it was only a matter of time before Warner Brothers greenlit the sequel. Lucy (Elizabeth Banks) and Emmet (Chris Pratt) are currently residing in what was Bricksburg but now resembles a world ripped out of Mad Max. Movie fans will find Emmet pretending that everything is awesome but, in reality, it is far from it.
As mentioned, the original movie's main players are all returning, making The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part into a proper homecoming. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.
While the plot of the sequel hasn't been released yet, producers Dan Lin and Chris McKay previously suggested to Collider that the movie's story would revolve around the differences between how young boys and girls interact with their toys.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part blasts off into space (and into theaters!) on February 8th, 2019.
