She told detectives that she shot her husband because he had been beating the family cat.
Mary Harrison told authorities that the shooting occurred during an argument around 7 a.m. Saturday in the couple's home, in the northeast Dallas neighborhood of Whispering Hills.
Harrison met police at the door after the shooting was reported and said she and her husband, Dexter Harrison, 49, had been arguing.
The shooting took place around 06:45 local time, police say.
She has been charged with murder and booked into a Dallas County jail. Mary Harrison posted signs and the cat eventually was returned. "A man got shot over a cat?"
The victim was reportedly transported to an area hospital where he died shortly after his arrival, as reported by KXAS. "It's kind of insane", neighbor Carl Phillips told KTVT. "They don't bother anybody", neighbor Carl Phillips said.
