Croatia progressed to the semi-finals of the World Cup after a second successive penalty shootout on Saturday but their inability to put away another unimpressive team over 90 minutes and extra time is a major worry for the Balkan side.

With the scores level after 90 minutes, extra-time was played, in which Croatia took the lead through Domagoj Vida in the first half, before Mario Fernandes headed a dramatic equalizer in the second half to force a penalty shootout.

But victory was Croatia's, and it means they emulate their great side of 1998, who were beaten in the semi-finals by eventual winners France 20 years ago.

Tens of thousands of Russian soccer fans gathered in Moscow on Sunday to cheer the national team after its narrow defeat to Croatia brought an unlikely World Cup run to an emotional end. "And they won a place in our hearts", she said.

"It's an adventure", said McNulty.

"We have one more step to go in Croatia and we'll treat it as "one game at a time".

"We took a hard route and we were unlucky, particularly in previous tournaments, especially the Euros".

After 10 years of Real's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi dominating the Ballon d'Or, there has been talk that leading his country to World Cup glory could see Modric break the pair's stranglehold on the award for the world's best player.

"It'd be fantastic if the Sbornaya organised a tour of Russian cities and met the fans all over the country", said Anton Voronin from Krasnodar, who was at the historic match against Spain at the Luzhniki Stadium in the Round of 16.

"We wanted to go further but, regrettably, we could not do that".

She added: "We have been very clear as to why we took that decision in relation to ministers".

Harry Kane, meanwhile, believes England's World Cup heroes can inspire a generation - just like he was as a young fan. I am happy that i have been a part of this team, this coach and our football country for nearly 20 years.

NAIJ.com previously reported that Croatia progressed into Russian Federation 2018 semifinals after beating Russian Federation 4-3 on penalties.

"I can't tell you their gameplan or tactics - but I know our gameplan". You can't reach the last eight of the World Cup if you don't have quality.
