Dejan Lovren hit out at the suggestion he could be scared of facing Harry Kane when Croatia take on England in Wednesday's World Cup semi-final.

Kane, who still leads the Golden Boot standings with six goals, gave Lovren a torrid time in Tottenham's 4-1 Premier League win over Liverpool last October, in which the centre-back was substituted before half-time.

The quarter-final stage of FIFA World Cup 2018 came to an exciting end on Saturday with final match played between England and Sweden.

With a team featuring Davor Suker, Zvonimir Boban and Robert Prosinecki wearing blue shirts with a distinctive red and white chequerboard pattern, they beat World Cup giants Germany 3-0 in the quarter-finals in France, sparking delirium at home. "We don't fear England".

Talisman Modric suggested that it was destiny for the match to be decided by a penalty shootout, their second in two knockout matches after overcoming Denmark on spot-kicks in the round of 16.

"We believed in its potential, and I think the games that we've prepared for, we had belief we would win, but there is still pressure in all of those matches, so I'm really pleased with how the team have emerged and developed".

About 10,000 Croatia fans are expected among 80,000 people in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, including Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. "It will be a battle again but I believe in us".

Modric has scored twice in Russian Federation, including a fabulous goal in the 3-0 win over Argentina in the group stage, and twice netted in nail-biting penalty shootouts against Denmark and Russian Federation.

Now they are looking to go one step further, but just getting this far is a source of great pride for Croatia.

"First of all, I want to thank the team, to everyone who took part in the team I'm proud of them, I love them like my family... we became one family...", the 29-year-old said.

While semi-final excitement reaches fever pitch at home, what is it like to be an Englishman living in Croatia?

However, a bigger issue for coach Zlatko Dalic will be how to get more decisive performances from his top players.

Croatia often looked reluctant to attack and Modric's words after the game hinted at a lack of adventure that will surely cost them sooner or later. So we won't win the game just because Croatia had half an hour more football than us three days ago. We will try to play our best.
