First PGA Tour stop in Detroit is full-go for June 2019

PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic to be played in Detroit in June

PGA Tour schedule in 2018-19 released, includes shortened FedEx Cup playoffs

The three playoff events are The Northern Trust at Liberty National in New Jersey; the BMW Championship at Medinah outside Chicago; and the Tour Championship, which will be August 22-25 at East Lake in Atlanta.

For the first time since 2002, the Boston area will not be on the PGA Tour schedule next year.

Triggered in part by the shifting of golf majors with the PGA Championship moving from August to May starting in 2019, the season will end before the start of the television-dominating National Football League season.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit features on the schedule for the first time from June 27-30, with the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities - now a Champions Tour event - a week later.

As part of the agreement, the London-based company will become an official marketing partner of the PGA, as well as being named "official risk, retirement and health advisor" of the PGA Tour.

A revamped US PGA Tour schedule for the 2018-19 season, with a shortened playoff race and a campaign ending in August, was unveiled Tuesday by tour commissioner Jay Monahan. The other World Golf Championships are the Mexico Championship (Mexico City, Mexico), the Dell Technologies Match Play (Austin, Texas) and the HSBC Champions (Shanghai, China).

This year's Tour Championship ends September 23. "It's been our stated objective for several years to create better sequencing of our tournaments that golf fans around the world can engage in from start to finish". Puerto Rico is slotted for February 18-24, the same week as the WGC-Mexico Championship.

The major changes include moving The Players Championship from May to March and the PGA Championship from August to May. The Dallas and Fort Worth tournaments are split by the PGA Championship, which will be played at Bethpage Black (May 16-19) as part of its new May date.

The RBC Canadian Open moves a week before the U.S. Open, held next year at Pebble Beach. "The fact that Aon is providing equal prize money for the men (PGA TOUR) and women (LPGA) has made a huge statement to our players, and we couldn't be more appreciative".

Go ahead and mark June 24-30 on the 2019 calendar.
