USA actor James Woods, one of the rare Hollywood celebrities to openly support President Donald Trump, has been dumped by his talent agent - apparently over politics.

Last night around 9:45 p.m., Woods posted a tweet with a screencap of an email from his agent, Ken Kaplan.

"It's the 4th of July and I'm feeling patriotic", wrote Kaplan. "I could go on a rant but you know what I would say".

Responded Woods, "Dear Ken, I don't actually". "I was thinking if you're feeling patriotic, you would appreciate free speech and one's right to think as an individual". The actor described Kaplan as a "political liberal".

He then posted his email response to Kaplan. In October 2017, Woods said that he was retiring from Hollywood because he had been "blacklisted" over his support for Donald Trump.

Woods, whose notable films include Videodrome, Casino, and Disney's Hercules, has become a Twitter icon among conservatives for his political commentary and politically incorrect humor.

Woods has previously said that being a conservative in Hollywood has made it hard for him in recent years to find roles.

Deadline reported in December 2009 that Woods had signed with the Gersh Agency, where Kaplan is a partner. Woods, meanwhile, is still very politically active on Twitter, and apparently seeking professional representation.

The actress, Amber Tamblyn, came out - in the middle of the #MeToo allegations - and accused Mr. Woods of trying to seduce her when she was just a 16-year-old girl.

In a 2013 Twitter exchange with a follower, Woods said that he didn't "expect to work again".
