Jurgen Klopp has issued a vote of confidence to Loris Karius following the goalkeeper's latest error in Liverpool's 3-2 win against Tranmere Rovers.

Karius, who cost Liverpool dearly with a pair of very bad mistakes in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, spilled Ollie Norburn's free-kick and Jonny Smith scored on the rebound.

And Karius managed to spill the shot, allowing it to bounce in front of him rather than taking it cleanly.

"Two brilliant footballers make mistakes but we only talk about one".

Klopp said that Karius will be heavily scrutinised by the media and fans until he can string together some consistent performances for the club but that the media can help by stop asking about his obvious mistakes. "We need to cool down the whole situation; let's play football, let's work on our weaknesses and use our strength and then everything will be good".

"Never ask again, we will not talk about it - that would be great".

The German added that Karius will continue to be criticised until "he has a few fantastic games". That you [the media] do what you do, we have to deal with it.

'I've seen this situation at least 500 times in my life [when the ball] hits the chest [of a goalkeeper].

The 18-year-old opened the scoring after'just seven minutes at Prenton Park, sweeping a low finish home after being fed inside the box to get the Reds off the mark.

The Reds raced into a three-goal lead before half-time as Rafa Camacho, Sheyi Ojo and Adam Lallana - wearing the captain's armband - all struck ahead of the interval.
