Manchester United sign Stoke keeper Grant - Premier League 2018

Lee Grant

Lee Grant only made five first-team appearances for Stoke last season

Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Lee Grant from Stoke City for a reported fee of £1.5 million.

"Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember". This was an opportunity that I couldn't let pass and I'm thrilled to become a part of such a historic club.

He has since represented clubs as varied as Burnley, Oldham and Sheffield Wednesday before getting the call to experience life in the Premier League.

With Sam Johnstone set to leave Old Trafford this summer, Mourinho will need back-up for first-choice pair David de Gea and Sergio Romero.

He joined Stoke in 2016 but only made five first-team appearances last season, his last coming in a 3-0 Premier League home defeat by Liverpool on 29 November.

In a statement, Stoke said: "The club would like to place on record our thanks to Lee and wish him all the best for the future".

Summer signing Diogo Dalot will reportedly be included in Manchester United's upcoming pre-season tour after being taken off crutches.

Jose Mourinho has already made three signings so far this summer but he knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if United are to compete with Man City for the title next season and Shaqiri could be viewed as a potential replacement for Anthony Martial - who's been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The main motive for Manchester United signing the 35-year old is understood to be the fact that Mourinho wants promising young goalkeeper, Joel Pereira, to spend the next season out on loan and continue his development.
